Maiden Voyage
It's been a week and a day. The Pinephone Pro explorer edition arrived last Saturday, and here I am on a Sunday next typing in Vim about it. Why?
Let's see if I recall. The phone was shipped with Manjaro and Plasma. It looked pretty. It was slick. I did the needful and began updating the system.
Pacman was complaining about keys. I was not able to resolve the issue. So I got a microSD, installed Mobian and Phosh, and went about getting the system going. I can't recall exactly why I wasn't happy with that, but I wasn't.
So I installed Danctnix and SXMO. I was really excited about that as it reminded me of the old openbox days. The phone audio was horrible, and I wasn't able to answer all calls. So I went back to Mobian and Phosh.
Mobian and Phosh. Not crazy about it, especially since I've gone long periods without being able to actually use the phone. It rings. I can place calls. No audio. Data works, though. Can send all kinds of texts. Emails. Surf the net. The old apt-get update && apt-get upgrade. All on a 4G LTE connection. Just not actually use the phone. There are other issues, too. But without the ability to use the phone, they're all moot and the chances of this phone actually being my daily driver dry up real quick.
But I'm determined to get it to work. So this digital yacht has set sail to help me document the adventure. Thanks to hugo for what has turned out to be fairly painless ~24 hours getting a new site up and running. After I get the PPP up and running I might take a look at those other systems. Not sure yet. First things first. Let's actually use this phone.
